A root canal is warranted when the dental pulp is infected, damaged or dead. This can be a result of deep dental cavities, fissures, dental trauma or simply as a result of a defective or broken dental restauration. It is recommended to protect and solidify the tooth with a crown in order to prevent potential fractures and possible loss of the tooth. A tooth that has a root canal remains a dead tooth thus more fragile.
