Periodontics is that part of dentistry that specializes in the treatment of the periodontium, that is the tissues that support the teeth. Periodontal disease is a consequence of caronic bacterial infections.

The degree of the periodontal disease varies from marginal to advanced. The diagnosis is evaluated by a periodontal charting which measures bone loss around each tooth, the mobility, the type of bone defects and the occlusal forces (bite forces).
