The term restaurative dentistry implies the restauration of teeth that are generally either caried or fractured in order to re-establish it's original form and function. In the case of a cavity or carious lesion, we remove the dental carie, clean the cavity and fill with a restaurative material. Dental materials used may be porcelaine, composite (which match the tooth color) and amalgam (a mixture of alloy such as mercury, silver, copper and sometimes zinc).
Because each case is different, the type of dental material may vary according to the patient. The type of material used depends on the size of the cavity to be restored, possible allergies to certains materials, the position of the tooth to be restaured as well as cost.
